Thanksgiving Assistant

This is my Thanksgiving assistant ~ I have no doubt she will pull through for me and assist me with all of my dinner needs.  She will be cooking a chocolate cake and a cheesecake for me, rolls, a cheese tray with crackers, potato salad and goodness knows whatever else she has stashed around her pantry.  By request, I will have to do the turkey, creamed potatos, and the usual other sides.  She has quite a following of people, so I hope she does not tire out or run out of things; I've used her quite a bit and have never seen that happen.  She is quite reliable.

The turkey recipe is one I saw years ago on a Food Network show.  It's a turkey fixed on one of Tyler Florence episodes.  I'm glad I saw him make it, otherwise it might have been a little crazy on that first try for me. The title of the recipe is a Maple-Roasted Turkey with Sage, Smoked Bacon, and Cornbread stuffing.  You can find the recipe here:
Maple-Roasted Turkey with Sage, Smoked Bacon ... - Food Network.  I have always had good luck with it, so it's always my go-to recipe for Thanksgiving.

I have company coming to have dinner with us.  I always purchase extra plastic Ziploc containers for left-overs so friends have a little something to take home with them.  There's always so much left, especially those desserts (get them out of the house).  Target already had their "limited edition" containers out; I mean really!  I was at the grocery last night and the deli section was stacked chest high in pumpkin pies - buy one-get one.  It makes me feel guity as all get out, but we just don't eat pumpkin pie here.  I feel I let the pilgrams down a little bit not having it on the table as tradition goes.

Whatever we all fix, its about sharing and bringing people together.  I don't like the idea some of the larger retailers choosing to open on Thanksgiving day.   People will still shop the next day, they will come whether you open up at 12:00 a.m. or at 9:00 a.m, AND, there will always be a sale.

Hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving week and the day of thanks will be whatever you wish it to be.  I'm thankful for your friendship.

  1. I'm not a pumpkin pie fan either.... it'd be my LAST choice ever!
Have fun and enjoy seeing the kids faces around the table. Wish I had some sage words of wisdom about your empty nest. I try to realize that by being out on their own, it actually expands my horizons a bit as I share vicariously in what they are up to.

  2. Hey, I use that same assistant on occasion ;) However, here... it is Sam's Club. Just the title of that turkey recipe sounds so delicious! Wishing you and your family (and of course, your JRT's!) a wonderful Thanksgiving! -Tammy

  3. Hubby and I are just getting ready to leave for Costco...I hop they have good prices on Turkeys! I couldn't believe what my grocery store was asking! The recipe sounds good, however if I make any changes to my normal recipe, the kids freak out. They want everything basic and how they remember. Good idea stocking up on the Ziplock bags...having all the leftover desserts is very dangerous!

  4. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. Your menu sounds amazing. Its a great idea to send leftovers home with your guests. I look forward to the leftovers at home, and that is the only downside to being a guest. You don't have to prepare the meal, but you don't get to enjoy the leftovers the next day either.

  5. Costco, a girl's best friend.
I used to buy darn near everything at Costco, but here in Oklahoma it's all about Sam's Club. They simply don't measure up to Costco.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. Costco has the BEST pies and such a great price for so much pie. Oh dear, now I'm thinking of their apple pie and I didn't renew my membership. What will I do?

  8. I like pumpkin pie and Hubby does not, so we generally get two pies, or else I just eat whatever kind he wants. Enjoy your meal and sooo glad you have an assistant! LOL

  9. I only wish I had your assistant close by to help me! We are having a small gathering this time, so I think I can handle all homemade. My
husband always helps too. So I can't complain!

  10. What no pumpkin pie? in the past two weeks I have made four, yes four, LOL. I hate the idea of people having to work on Thanksgiving, in my book it is just not right. Families spend little quality time together as it is and no I will not be getting up at some ridiculous hour to stand in line to purchase an item made in China. Happy Thanksgiving and sending blessings from Maine, Julie.

  12. Thanksgiving is my personal favorite Holiday. Even though the retail world tries to sneak in the stresses of shopping... I pass on that preferring family, friends, and tag football to all hell breaking loose in the stores.

Warm wishes and safe travels to all!

I like your 'helper'. We have one here, but I've never used her.
